Asked: Why are the pretenders of the Portuguese monarchy less popular and so much poorer than other Pretend
Just asking..But look at those in greece, they're even invited to the royal wedding in UK.It's just weird that the pretenders in Portugal are nothing compared to others.
Answers:
With the exception of Serbia, Montenegro, Albania and Georgia, the current pretenders to the Throne are not very popular in their countries.
Serbian (Yugoslavian) Royals are extremely popular in the country and enjoy support from all major political parties; I wouldn't be surprised at all if Monarchy in Serbia were reinstated. Same goes for the Monarchies of Albania and Montenegro.
Georgian Royals are somewhat less popular, however the recent dynastic marriage of Prince David and Princess Anne – the heirs of two branches of the House of Bagration, and the birth of their son (the undisputed heir to the Throne) did generate a lot of goodwill and support for the Monarchy.
- Greek Royals are most certainly not popular in Greece; in fact, the reverse would be more accurate. Former King Constantine, Queen Anne Marie and their children do enjoy very close relationship with the British, Danish and Spanish Royal Families because they are very closely related. Prince Philip, The Duke of Edinburgh was born a Prince of Greece and Denmark, while Queen Anne-Marie is the sister of Queen Margrethe II of Denmark and Queen Sofia of Spain.
- Few Russians are even aware of the current claimants to the Throne. Maria Vladimirovna (who styles herself Grand Duchess of Russia) is perhaps a bit better known than the other pretender, Prince Nicholas Romanov; nevertheless, both have no relevance in modern Russian. Maria Vladimirovna is half Georgian, while her son is half-German (her husband was a Prussian Prince); given the difficult relationships between Russia and Georgia and the historical differences between Russia and Germany, Prince George has a less chances of ever ascending to the Russian Throne than a snowball in hell.
- French pretenders aren't taken seriously, not least because no one is quite certain who is the 'rightful' heir to the Throne, and which Throne for that matter. Orleanists and Legitimists (claimants from various branches of the House of Bourbon) and Napoleonists all claim the Throne for their champions.
- Italian pretender to the Throne, Vittorio Emanuele of Savoy, is a criminal with more scandals associated with than all the other Royal Houses put together.
- Portuguese Royals are not exactly very popular in Portugal, however they are certainly better known than most other pretenders. In fact, they do enjoy a certain level of support from not only people (pro-Monarchists) but even politicians; Dom Duarte's marriage to Isabel de Heredia in 1995 (the first marriage of Portuguese Royals in Portugal in a century) was attended by the principal Portuguese political figures, including President Mario Soares, the President of the Assembly of the Republic, and Prime Minister Anbal Cavaco Silva.
Hi, I am portuguese, so I will try to explain as i can.
In 1808 Portugal was invaded by Napoleon and it's troops because it refused to close its port's to England. To avoid being captured and therefore let Napoleon gain control over Portuguese empire, the Royal family with Queen D.Maria I (she was mad), her son Prince D.Joo and his spanish wife D. Carlota Joaquina, along with their kids D. Pedro and D. Miguel, fled to Brazil.
In order to control the empire, D. Joo the regent prince, was forced to give the title of Kingdom to Brazil, making the "United Kingdom of Portugal, Brazil and the Algarves".
During the portuguese royal family presence in Brazil, Queen D. Maria I died, and it's son D.Joo VI was crowned.
When Portugal finally expelled Napoleon it's people demanded the kings return to Lisbon and the return of Brazil to it's former Colonial status (as a colony). However, those demands were not seen with good eyes by the Brazilians, so when D. Joo VI returned with it's family, he left his older son D. Pedro ruling Brazil. In 1822 D. Pedro was no longer capable of keeping Brazil under control, and trying to avoid to loose it to republicans as in the Spanish empire, he declared Brazil's independence from D. Joo VI and Portugal, and proclaimed himself as D.Pedro I Emperor of Brazil.
When D. Joo VI of Portugal died, the throne became empty. D. Pedro, the rightful heir was already emperor so he gave the portuguese throne to its daughter D. Maria II. However, it's brother D. Miguel, took D. Maria II place and became king. To get the portuguese throne back to her daughter, D. Pedro left Brazil, resigned as Emperor, declared himself as D. Pedro IV King of Portugal and declared war on it's brother. After it, D. Pedro won and D. Miguel was exiled forever.
In 1908, the Portuguese King D.Carlos I and it's older son D. Luis (D. Pedro IV descendants), were assassinated and it's younger son D.Manuel became king, but, in 1910 he was deposed in favor of the Portuguese Republic, and died in exile with no heirs.
So, D. Duarte, the portuguese pretender is a direct descendant of D. Miguel, since D. Pedro linage no longer exists, and since D. Miguel was exiled forever (meaning it's decedents could not claim the thrown), D. Duarte is kind of an outcast in the royal families today.
Depends on British Law, I know in the United States people are encouraged to donate organs but what they are not taught is that your estate in responsible for the cost of the tranplant, so have a living will saying the reciver of your organ pays for the surgery or your family will be held to pay.Info from my Family Trust.
Sure. But they do most of the donating while alive. Just look at Philip. His organ has been donated thousands of times, inside some very worthy causes.
Not at all, dear girl. The organs of our wonderful Royals would not be compatible with the bodies of mere common folk. You see, it is a well-known medical fact that the Royal Family have pure and unadulterated blue blood coursing through their veins, whilst the rest of the population possess only the commonest of red blood.
