Various Christmas Traditions and Customs That People Long For Every Year
Christmas is a celebration abundant in tradition and history. People around the world may observe this holiday in many ways but one thing is evident, everybody is experiencing the best times of their life during Christmas. Most people spend it with their family and friends, enjoying each other’s company, reminiscing loving memories, and making fresh ones.
They claim that things, good or bad, come in threes. Christmas has a lot of unique traditions yet the three that stand out are fruit cakes, Christmas trees and Christmas cards.
Every family has its individual secret formula in creating fruit cakes that is closely guarded and handed down from generation to generation. Around the world, fruit cakes have a lot of varieties as the diversity in the ingredients added become evident. In the UK, for one, fruit cakes are moist in texture and richer in flavor than their American equivalent. Fruit cakes are likewise a part of the UK Christmas custom, commonly coated with royal icing and marzipan. They are then adorned with holly leaves, real or artificial berries, and other ornaments symbolizing Christmas.
Now, what is Christmas if there is no tree alive with colorful lights and ornaments? It is likewise a special Christmas tradition wherein the fathers and their young lads get out and choose the tree and the entire household decorates it, with the unique privilege given to the youngest member of the family to place the star at the top of the tree. By tradition, the tree is fixed and decorated on Christmas Eve, December 24th and will be removed the day following twelfth night, January 6th. Evergreens and coniferous trees are the mostly used trees and the firs, pines and spruces are the three most common species.
On the other hand, gifts and personalized Christmas cards are a way of life. Thus, Christmas would not be complete without giving away and receiving a Christmas souvenir in one form or another. People use up most of their time thinking about what to send their loved ones on this special celebration. It is also evident to everybody that Christmas is the most hectic shopping time of the year where people are more ready to splurge in the spirit of Christmas and of giving. Business Christmas cards are sent out by large corporations to let their customers know how much the company appreciate their loyalty and anticipate an improved relationship in the future.
These are merely three of the Christmas customs that, whether we like it or not, we all long for every year. After the holiday season, after clearing out the disarray in the kitchen, after removing the tree, we are so thrilled for the next Christmas season.
